Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Department of Ophthalmology in Ashdod, Israel, explores the association between elevated blood estradiol levels and corneal ectasia in premenopausal women. The study involved three groups of women: those with keratoconus, those with post refractive surgery ectasia (PRSE), and a control group. The researchers found that higher blood estradiol levels were associated with an increased risk of ectasia. This research suggests that measuring estradiol levels could be useful for women with keratoconus or those undergoing refractive surgery. [Extracted from the article]
