Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from Lingnan University in Hong Kong aimed to identify kindergarten children at risk for dyscalculia, a specific learning disorder related to mathematics. The study followed 138 children from their second year of kindergarten to the end of their third year, and used latent class growth modeling to identify four groups with different trajectories of mathematical skill development. The researchers found that poor number line and number word comparison skills were significant factors in identifying children at risk for dyscalculia. The study suggests that early identification of at-risk children and targeted interventions can help prevent the development of dyscalculia. [Extracted from the article]
