Abstract
- A recent systematic review conducted by researchers from University Hospital in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, explored the impact of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) on microRNA-21 (miR-21) expression in oral and oropharyngeal cancer. The review analyzed four studies with a total sample size of 621 subjects with oral and/or oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC/OPSCC). The findings indicated that there were no significant differences in miR-21 expression between HPV-positive and HPV-negative OSCC/OPSCC. However, the researchers noted that more studies are needed to better understand the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of OSCC/OPSCC influenced by HPV and miR-21 expression.
