Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, examined the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant E. coli in the sewage of Bangkok City during the wastewater treatment process. The study found that 84% of the sewage contained antibiotic-resistant E. coli, with 28% being resistant to a single drug and 56% being multidrug-resistant. The researchers also found that the effluent from the treatment process had a higher susceptibility to antibiotics compared to the sewage. The study concluded that there is a high correlation between antibiotic-resistant E. coli in receiving water and the effluent from the treatment process. [Extracted from the article]
