Abstract

Researchers at the University of Porto have made advancements in understanding Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that causes gastric diseases such as peptic ulcers and adenocarcinoma. Current antibiotherapies are not always effective, so targeted nanotherapeutics have emerged as a potential solution. These nanotherapeutics involve the use of nanoparticles conjugated with molecules that bind to H. pylori, blocking essential mechanisms of infection or delivering drugs to kill the bacteria. The researchers provide an overview of existing nanotherapeutics and discuss their potential to counteract H. pylori infection. [Extracted from the article]
