Abstract

A study conducted at Mukogawa Women's University in Hyogo, Japan, has investigated the antiallergic effects of onopordopicrin (OPP), a compound found in burdock leaves and stems. The researchers found that OPP inhibits degranulation and suppresses the release of TNF-alpha and PGD2, which are involved in allergic reactions. The study suggests that OPP exerts its antiallergic action by binding to cysteine residues in signal proteins, such as I kappa B kinase beta (IKK beta), thereby inhibiting their activation. This research provides insights into the mechanism of action of OPP and its potential as a treatment for allergies. [Extracted from the article]
