Abstract
- A recent study conducted by investigators at the University of Campania 'Luigi Vanvitelli' in Caserta, Italy, explored the prevalence and clinical profile of patients with Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) in Parkinson's disease (PD). The study found that RLS is more common in PD patients, with a prevalence of 20%. PD-RLS was associated with female sex, mixed motor phenotype, worse motor disturbances and functional disability, and a wide range of non-motor symptoms such as sleep disorders, cognitive and autonomic dysfunctions, and more severe neuropsychiatric manifestations. The study suggests that neurotransmitter systems other than the dopaminergic one may be involved in the etiology of PD-RLS. [Extracted from the article]
