Abstract

A recent report from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai discusses the potential interference of the drug abemaciclib with the estradiol Abbott Alinity chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) commonly used to monitor estradiol levels in premenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. The study found that abemaciclib may lead to inaccurate estradiol level measurements using CMIA, and suggests that liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) should be used instead. The researchers recommend using LC-MS/MS when monitoring estradiol levels in patients receiving abemaciclib alongside ovarian function suppression (OFS). This information is important for healthcare providers to ensure accurate monitoring and appropriate treatment modifications. [Extracted from the article]
