Abstract
- According to a preprint abstract, sleep loss has been found to increase AMPA-synaptic strength and number in the neocortex. Additionally, there is an increased AMPA/NMDA EPSC ratio in frontal-cortical pyramidal neurons of layers 2-3. These changes in synaptic response to sleep loss are recovered by sleep, and sleep genes are enriched for cellular components controlling glutamate synapse phenotype. These findings suggest that sleep genes play a role in motor learning and training through the oscillation of glutamate-synaptic phenotypes. However, it is important to note that this preprint has not yet undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
