Abstract
- Inventors from Israel have filed a patent application for a ventricular assist device that aims to assist and unload cardiac chambers in patients with failing hearts or those at risk during coronary interventions. The device includes a motion-cushioning spring and an elastomeric material to reduce the risk of thrombi and hemolysis. It also features a distal thrust bearing to prevent axial motion of the impeller in response to pressure variations.
