Abstract

A study conducted at the Federal University Ceara in Fortaleza, Brazil, examined the use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) in patients with chronic Chagas heart disease (CCHD). The study found that patients with secondary prevention and an ejection fraction less than 30% were more likely to receive appropriate therapies from the ICD. Additionally, patients with congestive heart failure, elevated functional class, and age over 75 years had higher mortality rates. The study highlights the importance of ICDs in managing CCHD and identifies predictors of mortality and appropriate device therapy in this population. [Extracted from the article]
