Abstract

A new study conducted by researchers at the Graduate School of Medicine in Osaka, Japan, has found that short-term treatment with the drug canagliflozin may improve kidney oxygenation in patients with type 2 diabetes. The study used blood oxygenation level-dependent MRI to evaluate the effects of canagliflozin on kidney oxygenation. The results showed that cortical oxygenation levels increased significantly after one day of treatment and remained improved after five consecutive treatments. This research suggests that canagliflozin may have protective effects on kidney disease outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes. [Extracted from the article]
