Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Ibn Sina University provides new insights into spinal arachnoid web (AW), a rare condition with limited documented cases. The study aimed to analyze and describe the clinical features, imaging, pathophysiology, and management strategies of surgically proven spinal AWs. The researchers identified a total of 197 cases, including their own, and found that AWs are more common in middle-aged males and often present without an evident cause. The most common clinical signs were sensation disturbances, followed by gait difficulties, weakness, and pain. Excision was found to be the most effective treatment. The study also suggests that AW may result from a ruptured arachnoid cyst or its precursor. The researchers recommend using specific MRI sequences to visualize the arachnoid band directly.
