Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, explored the use of therapeutic plasmapheresis as a potential treatment for pediatric acute liver failure (PALF). PALF is a severe condition with high mortality rates, and currently, liver transplant is the only specific therapy available. The study found that plasmapheresis, a procedure that removes metabolites and other substances that accumulate due to impaired liver function, showed promising results in improving clinical outcomes for three critically ill patients with acute liver failure. However, further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of this approach. [Extracted from the article]
