Abstract

A new study from the University of Rochester Medical Center explores the use of prophylactic implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) for patients with symptomatic heart failure. The study examines different scoring systems that can help identify subgroups of patients who would benefit the most from ICDs and mitigate complications. The review also discusses the use of cardiac MRI to predict ventricular arrhythmia and the potential for genetic analysis to identify patients at increased risk. While the scoring models are not yet ready for implementation in clinical guidelines, they could assist in decision-making for borderline cases. [Extracted from the article]
