Abstract

The American Sand Association (ASA) was created in response to the anti-OHV (Off-Highway Vehicle) movement in the late 1990s, which threatened OHV management in the California desert. The ASA aims to protect the rights of sand enthusiasts and the local economies that rely on OHV recreation. They have successfully joined in on other OHV battles, including lawsuits and actions relating to air quality and noise abatement. The ASA continues to face challenges, such as efforts to establish a national monument that would limit trail riding. They rely on support from the public and hold fundraisers, such as a raffle for a Polaris RZR, to fund their efforts. [Extracted from the article]
