Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Medical University of Silesia in Poland examined the levels of ghrelin and leptin in patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). The study found that patients with NETs had higher levels of ghrelin compared to healthy individuals, but no significant difference in leptin levels. Additionally, lower levels of leptin were observed in patients with small intestine primary locations compared to those with lung and pancreatic primary locations. The study also highlighted the importance of these markers in diagnosing NETs and maintaining a normal body mass index (BMI) despite disease progression. [Extracted from the article]
