Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Trinity College Dublin has shed light on the mechanisms behind Staphylococcus aureus nasal colonization. The study found that S. aureus induces an immunosuppressive environment in the nasal tissue, allowing for colonization. The researchers discovered that S. aureus preferentially induces type 1 interferon signaling in macrophages, leading to the upregulation of proapoptotic genes and phagocyte apoptosis. This study reveals a novel strategy used by S. aureus to evade host immunity and facilitate nasal colonization. [Extracted from the article]
