Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine explores the potential of Poecilobdella manillensis (PM), a type of leech known for its anticoagulant and antithrombotic properties, in improving inflammatory injury in rat glomerular mesangial cells. The study found that the freeze-dried powder of PM effectively enhanced cell viability and inhibited the production of inflammatory factors. The researchers suggest that PM may exert these effects by regulating the TXNIP/NLRP3 signaling pathway. This study provides a scientific basis for the potential clinical application of PM in the treatment of diabetic kidney disease. [Extracted from the article]
