Abstract

Researchers from the University of Stuttgart in Germany have conducted a study on the lean blow-out (LBO) sensitivity of liquid fuel operated jet stabilised combustion systems in aircraft engines. The study focused on a canonical single nozzle confined jet spray burner with a dual pressure swirl/airblast injector. The researchers found that the fuel type and vaporisation process strongly influenced the LBO sensitivity, while atomization and physical fuel properties did not play a significant role. The study provides insights into the thermochemical conversion process during LBO and highlights the importance of vaporisation and auto-ignition in the combustion process.
