Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Gondar in Ethiopia has found that pretreatment with lidocaine can significantly reduce the occurrence of postoperative myalgia caused by the muscle relaxant succinylcholine. The study involved 208 adult surgical patients and found that patients exposed to lidocaine had a lower incidence of myalgia compared to those who were not exposed. The study also identified other factors, such as the use of multimodal analgesia and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as well as postoperative immobility and being male, that can help reduce succinylcholine-induced myalgia. This research provides valuable insights into preventive mechanisms for postoperative myalgia and highlights potential strategies for managing this condition. [Extracted from the article]
