Abstract

A recent report from researchers at the Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences in India discusses a rare case of mucormycosis complicating bullous pemphigoid, an autoimmune blistering condition. The patient, a 76-year-old female, presented with painful and itchy fluid-filled lesions and was treated with corticosteroids, antibiotics, and topical ointments. However, a necrotic skin patch was later discovered and confirmed to be mucormycosis, a fungal infection. The researchers emphasize the importance of considering rare differentials like mucormycosis in the diagnosis and treatment of bullous pemphigoid to prevent mortality and morbidity.
