Abstract
- A recent report from the University of Arizona College of Medicine discusses the prescribing patterns of antibiotics for hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) between dermatology and non-dermatology clinicians in the ambulatory setting. The study utilized the National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) to identify HS patient visits from 2005 to 2016. The findings showed that dermatology clinicians were more likely to prescribe tetracyclines, while non-dermatology clinicians commonly prescribed penicillins/cephalosporins. Overall, there was no significant difference in the likelihood of prescribing antibiotic therapy between the two groups. This research provides insight into the treatment approaches for HS and highlights the need for further investigation into antibiotic stewardship. [Extracted from the article]
