Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Southeast University in Nanjing, China, explored the use of liver biopsy for diagnosing unexplained portal hypertension. The study analyzed data from 188 patients with unexplained portal hypertension who underwent liver biopsy. The results showed that liver biopsy was valuable for determining the cause of portal hypertension, with cirrhosis being the most common cause. The study also highlighted the importance of considering porto-sinusoidal vascular disease as a potential cause of portal hypertension. The researchers concluded that while clinical features can provide some insight, pathological examination is essential for accurate diagnosis and assessment of disease progression.
