Abstract

Researchers from Ohio State University have conducted a study on the potential impact of the weak nuclear force on the chirality of molecules. Chirality refers to the property of molecules having mirror-image forms. The researchers propose that the weak nuclear force, which is the only inherently handed property in nature, could play a role in the natural selectivity of specific enantiomers (mirror-image forms) in the formation of amino acids and nucleic acids. They suggest that catalysis by heavy elements could yield observable chiral preferences within a time span of weeks to months. This research provides new insights into the influence of the weak nuclear force on molecular chirality. [Extracted from the article]
