Abstract

A recent systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at the University of Adelaide examined the effectiveness of fibrin sealants in head and neck surgery. The review included 14 studies with a total of 904 patients and found that the use of fibrin sealants was associated with a reduction in postoperative wound complications, shorter drain removal times, decreased drain output, and shorter hospital stays compared to controls. However, the researchers noted methodological weaknesses and clinical heterogeneity in the studies, which limit the findings. Further research is needed to improve the quality of studies and explore the cost-effectiveness of fibrin sealant use in surgery. [Extracted from the article]
