Abstract
- A study conducted by researchers at the Federal University Santa Catarina in Florianopolis, Brazil, focuses on the emergence of a highly successful genetic lineage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) known as the RdJ clone. This clone has been linked to bloodstream infections and features a mutation in the aur gene. The study aimed to detect the RdJ clone among clinical MRSA isolates in Santa Catarina and examine its antimicrobial resistance and phagocytosis evasion capabilities. The researchers found the RdJ clone in 20% of MRSA isolates in Santa Catarina, all of which exhibited multiresistance. The study enhances understanding of the clinical and epidemiologic risks associated with the RdJ clone and the biological mechanisms underlying its spread in Santa Catarina.
