Abstract

A study conducted at the University of Benin in Lagos, Nigeria, aimed to determine the cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk variables in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and how they relate to body mass index (BMI). The study found that regardless of BMI, PCOS may increase a woman's risk of CVD. The researchers concluded that treatment combined with lifestyle modifications may be useful in lowering the risk of CVD in PCOS-afflicted Nigerian women, and early detection, prevention, and treatment of cardiovascular risk factors in women with PCOS is desirable.
