Abstract

Researchers at the University of Copenhagen conducted a study on the relationship between attachment needs, therapeutic attachment, and outcomes in adult psychotherapy. The study involved 330 adult clients and 44 therapists, analyzing the associations between attachment insecurity, therapeutic attachment, growing engagement or autonomy in therapy, and interpersonal problems. The research found that different types of therapeutic attachment may influence the process and outcome of therapy, and therapists' attunement to clients' attachment needs could enhance interpersonal outcomes. The study was published in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology and was funded by various organizations including Tryg Fonden and the Danish Psychological Association.
