Abstract

A recent cohort study conducted at the University of Southern Santa Catarina in Brazil examined the impact of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on pregnancy outcomes for women and their offspring. The study found that pregnant women with GDM had a higher risk of complications during childbirth and cesarean birth compared to those without GDM. Additionally, newborns born to mothers with GDM had a higher risk of being large for gestational age, having low Apgar scores, and experiencing birth asphyxia. The research highlights the importance of managing GDM to prevent adverse outcomes for both mothers and babies. [Extracted from the article]
