Abstract
- A recent study published in Light: Advanced Manufacturing by scientists from Poland and Germany introduces a method to enhance light collection efficiency in multicore optical fibers used in endoscopy. By locally heating the fiber with a high-power laser beam, the researchers increased the diameter of the cores guiding the image without changing the probe's size. This modification resulted in a significant improvement in image contrast, making it a promising advancement for minimally invasive medical procedures, particularly in areas with limited space like the brain or cochlea. The study highlights the potential for this technique to enhance endoscopic imaging for applications such as cancer diagnostics, offering a valuable contribution to the field of surgical technology.
