Abstract
- A study conducted by University College London (UCL) evaluated the performance of a deep learning system (DLS) for detecting diabetic retinopathy (DR) in Indigenous Australians, a group that experiences a high burden of DR-related blindness. The DLS showed improved sensitivity and similar specificity compared to a retina specialist for DR detection, indicating its potential to support DR screening in this underserved population. Funders for this research included Google Incorporated, General Sir John Monash Scholarship, Moorfields Eye Charity Career Development Award, UK Research & Innovation (UKRI).
