Abstract

The article discusses the role of GABA/glutamate cotransmitting neurons in the entopeduncular nucleus (EP) in guiding action selection and evaluation in the basal ganglia. Through a probabilistic switching task, researchers found that these neurons exhibit bidirectional changes in activity during choice and outcome periods. However, blocking cotransmission or modifying the GABA/glutamate ratio did not produce detectable changes in behavior, indicating that the outputs of these neurons may not be necessary for ongoing action-outcome updating. This preprint has not yet undergone peer review and provides valuable insights into the behavior of these neurons in the brain. [Extracted from the article]
