Abstract

A systematic review conducted at OLVG Hospital in Amsterdam, Netherlands, compared sterile and non-sterile techniques in minor surgical procedures. The analysis of eight studies found no significant difference in infection rates between the two techniques, but suggested that sterile techniques may reduce complications in specific contexts. The research concluded that for most minor surgical procedures, non-sterile techniques do not significantly increase the risk of postoperative infections, but further high-quality studies are needed to identify scenarios where sterility can be safely omitted to reduce costs without increasing infection risk.
