Abstract

Researchers at the University of Coimbra conducted a study on the consumption of ultra-processed food (UPF) and its association with obesity risk, sedentary behaviors, and well-being in adolescents. The study included 245 adolescents aged 12-17 years and found that UPF consumption was linked to a higher risk of being overweight, especially among boys. Additionally, the research highlighted that adolescents with mothers who had higher educational levels were less likely to be classified as overweight or obese. The study aimed to compare UPF consumption, sedentary behaviors, and well-being perception between boys and girls, emphasizing the importance of nutrition and lifestyle factors in adolescent health.
