Abstract

A recent study conducted at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Nimes in France explored the potential of serum neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) as a biomarker for predicting acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with acute rhabdomyolysis in the emergency department. The study involved 197 patients, with 29% developing AKI by day 2. The research found that NGAL had limited ability to predict AKI on day 2, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.60. The study concluded that NGAL may not be a reliable predictor of AKI in patients with acute rhabdomyolysis. [Extracted from the article]
