Abstract
- The article from the Wisconsin Magazine of History recounts the author's family tradition of baking poppyseed coffee cake for Christmas, passed down from their Polish immigrant ancestors. The tradition originated in the late 19th century when the author's great-grandparents emigrated from Silesia to Wisconsin and established a mill. The story follows the family's history, the decline of the mill during the Great Depression, and the author's efforts to preserve the tradition by learning to bake the coffee cake with their mother. The recipe for Grandma Kamla's Poppyseed Coffee Cake is included at the end of the article. [Extracted from the article]
