Abstract
- Researchers at Stanford University conducted a study on the impact of mass incarceration on the tuberculosis epidemic in Latin America. The study found that the rise in incarceration rates since 1990 has led to a significant increase in tuberculosis cases in the region. By modeling different incarceration policies, researchers projected that reducing prison admissions and duration could decrease tuberculosis incidence by over 10% in most countries. The research highlights the need for collaborative efforts between health agencies, justice ministries, and tuberculosis programs to address this public health crisis. [Extracted from the article]
