Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Iran focused on the effects of magnesium sulfate on post-operative pain. The study involved a systematic review and meta-analysis of 34 articles, which showed that magnesium sulfate can be an effective analgesic by antagonizing N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors in the central nervous system. The research highlighted that magnesium sulfate could potentially improve patient satisfaction, prolong the time to request analgesics, and reduce the amount of analgesic consumption after surgery. The researchers suggested further investigation into the use of magnesium sulfate as an adjuvant due to its cost-effectiveness and wide reliable serum range. [Extracted from the article]
