Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Rochester General Hospital explored the relationship between intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) administration and immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) on the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and pulmonary embolism (PE). The study, based on an analysis of the NIS database 2020, found that ITP patients who received IVIG had significantly decreased odds of developing VTE/PE, suggesting a potential protective effect of IVIG in ITP. The researchers concluded that IVIG therapy in ITP may reduce some of the thrombotic risks associated with the condition, but further studies are needed to confirm these findings.
