Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the University of Missouri analyzed the spatial transmission patterns of multiple genetic variants of H1 and H3 influenza A viruses (IAVs) in US swine farms from 2004 to 2023. The research identified sow farms as key sources of viruses, with frequent intra-system migrations and less frequent spread to geographically distant farms. The findings suggest that targeting pivotal source farms, such as sow farms, could be an effective strategy for controlling influenza in US commercial swine operations. The study was supported by the National Science Foundation and published in Emerging Microbes & Infections. [Extracted from the article]
