Abstract

A study from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences explored the relationship between copper status, abdominal obesity indices, and liver function in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The research found that low copper intake was associated with an increased likelihood of NAFLD, after adjusting for potential confounders. The study involved 80 overweight/obese patients with NAFLD and 80 healthy controls, highlighting differences in dietary intake and serum levels of liver aminotransferases, ferritin, copper, and ceruloplasmin between the two groups. The findings suggest a potential link between copper intake and the development of NAFLD. [Extracted from the article]
