Abstract
- Researchers at the Pdpm Indian Institute of Information Technology Design & Manufacturing in Madhya Pradesh, India, have focused on the design and development of biomimetic bone scaffolds using Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces (TPMS) lattice structures. These scaffolds aim to mimic the heterogeneous and anisotropic nature of bone structures, crucial for tissue engineering. By utilizing TPMS unit cells made of composite materials like polymer Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) and ceramic Hydroxyapatite (HA), researchers have enhanced the surface area to volume ratio, aiding in vascularization and cell proliferation. The study emphasizes the importance of material heterogeneity in scaffold design and proposes a hybridization of TPMS structures to create scaffolds that closely resemble human bone structures.
