Abstract

A recent study from Ulm University Medical Center explores the relationship between a-synuclein fibrils and HIV-1 infection in human T cells, macrophages, and microglia. The research suggests that these fibrils, associated with neurological diseases, enhance viral entry and replication in the central nervous system. The findings indicate a potential detrimental interplay between HIV-1 and brain amyloids, which may contribute to the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
