Abstract

A recent study from National Sun Yat-Sen University focused on the cloning of coral symbiotic dinoflagellates to understand their response to bleaching stress. The research found that high salinity conditions activated the endogenous tolerance of these microalgae to bleaching stress, reducing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and improving their recovery. The study suggests that intense light stress plays a more significant role in coral bleaching than high temperatures, and understanding the gene expression regulation of these microalgae could help strengthen coral resilience against climate change impacts.
