Abstract

Research from Boston University has shed light on the role of GABA/glutamate cotransmitting neurons in the entopeduncular nucleus of the central nervous system. These neurons play a role in action selection and evaluation, but their specific function in behavior remains unclear. The study found that these neurons are active during a probabilistic switching task and exhibit bidirectional changes in activity during different phases of a trial. However, blocking cotransmission or altering the GABA/glutamate ratio did not impact behavior, suggesting that their outputs may not be necessary for certain tasks. [Extracted from the article]
