Abstract

Researchers at the University of Sonora in Hermosillo, Mexico, have developed karaya gum-containing thermosensitive hydrogels for the controlled release of lidocaine, a local injectable anesthetic. The study found that the integration of karaya gum with a thermosensitive polymer network improved the compressive strength of the hydrogel and enhanced drug entrapment efficiency. The dual temperature- and pH-responsive hydrogels showed promise for biomedical applications, supporting both short- and long-term analgesic effects. This research was funded by Consejo Nacional de Humanidades Ciencias y Tecnologias (CONAHCYT) and Universidad de Sonora, and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
