Abstract
- Researchers at Mayo Clinic conducted a study on Alzheimer's disease, focusing on the development of plasma biomarkers for African Americans, an underrepresented group in Alzheimer's research. Using untargeted proteomics, they identified 153 differentially expressed proteins in plasma samples from African American participants with Alzheimer's or cognitively unimpaired individuals. The study found a potential diagnostic panel of plasma biomarkers that showed promise in discriminating Alzheimer's disease from cognitive impairment. Future research will involve validating these findings in external datasets and exploring machine learning models for optimal diagnostic and predictive biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease in African Americans.
