Abstract

A recent study from the University of California explores the early cortical microstructural neurodegeneration in aging and its link to vulnerability to Alzheimer's disease pathology. The research suggests that cortical microstructural changes may precede macrostructural atrophy and could improve early identification of Alzheimer's disease risk. The study found that patterns of cortical microstructural neurodegeneration were more Alzheimer's disease-like than patterns of macrostructural neurodegeneration, which appeared to reflect more general aging processes. This research provides valuable insights into early risk prediction efforts for Alzheimer's disease. [Extracted from the article]
