Abstract
- The article presents a report which focuses on the issues related to menopause. As a woman ages her supply of eggs declines. Menopause occurs naturally after the woman's supply of follicles has been depleted and menstruation ends completely. Menopause does not occur suddenly. A period called perimenopause usually begins a few years before the last menstrual cycle. After a woman reaches menopause, her average life expectancy is 30 years. During those years, however, she faces certain health risks due to lower levels of estrogen that cause accelerated bone loss and an increase in LDL cholesterol. Her risks for serious disorders are estimated at 46 per cent for heart disease, 20 per cent for stroke, and 15 per cent for hip fracture.
